Target IOP may be somewhat arbitrary at the onset of glaucoma evaluation. However, it is very helpful in the follow-up phase. Once stability (control) is attained within a range of IOPs, then maintaining pressure in (or very close to) that range is critically important. Other objective parameters should be used to assess stability or to follow progression of the glaucoma. If IOP is essentially the sole method of assessing and following the glaucoma, determining the target IOP range, is essential and absolutely required.
