Intraocular Lenses (IOL)

A cataract is a clouding of our natural crystal lens that can obscures vision. It may progress with age. When our natural lens is removed for a significant or insignificant cataract, an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) implant is placed to replace the power of the natural lens that was removed. Otherwise, one would have to wear the very thick “coke bottle” lenses that were common until the early 1980s, before the availability of lens implants. Most lens implants are single vision, meaning that they only focus at one specific distance. Insurance pays for such lens. A multifocal implant may be used to provide both distance and near vision.

Intraocular lens (IOL) medical expert witness specialties include ophthalmology.
