Amphetamine levels in chronic users routinely reach higher levels than expected. In people chronically using this medication, total doses are excreted in the urine over several days. Only about 30% of a dose is typically excreted in a 24-hour urine collection. This is highly dependent on the urine pH and can be as high as 74% in acidic urine and as low as 1% in alkaline urine. In other words, over time, the drug slowly accumulates to higher levels than an expected reference range.
