Robotic-Assisted Prostatectomy
Robotic-assisted prostatectomy was designed to surgically remove the prostate in a minimally invasive manner. Nevertheless, despite its accuracy, care must be taken to avoid injury to the surrounding structures, such as bladder, rectum, and blood vessels. Injury to these organs may result in considerable morbidity. Therefore, immediate recognition and repair is required for a successful outcome and postoperative course. Injury to the rectum may result in a significant postoperative course that can then require an immobilized period and sedentary existence leading to leg swelling and deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolus.
