Burn Scars
Burn scars are typically plainly visible and may or may not be hypertrophic, meaning mostly flat and not significantly raised or thick.
There are options for improving these scars. With minimal range of motion issues, there might be no indication for scar excision surgery and/or regrafting. The main treatment option for many scars is treatments with fractionated CO2 laser and steroid injections. These treatments may further soften scars and flatten them while also improving their color and texture. In addition, the laser treatments may continue to improve some of the neurologic symptoms of the scars themselves. More rapid improvement may come with more frequent treatments.
